Ah, Waluigi. Luigi's arch nemisis. I have been online and active in message boards for 3 years now. Me, being the giant Mario brothers fan I am, have often visited such boards as TUNMB, Sm128c forums, TMK, and the extremely popular VGF boards. I constantly see many, many topics about Waluigi. The comments that people often make are, "He's pointless.", or "He's not a good character.". Well, Waluigi is not pointless, and this editorial will explain my feelings why he is not pointless.
Probably the first people I see that dislike Waluigi are Luigi fans. Now, I'm not saying that all Luigi fans hate Waluigi. I am good friends with a Luigi fan who like Waluigi, and I, myself am a Luigi fan, but I see a LOT of Luigi fans on message boards who hate Luigi. Why? I don' know. Well, apparently "Waluigi sucks, Luigi owns him, he's pointless." Well, you would think that Luigi fans would be happy to see Luigi getting his own rival for a change. A lot of Luigi fans who think Luigi is a "neglected" character should be happy that Luigi finally has some competition, instead of sitting down at the Mario brothers' home writing in his diary about how he wishes he could accompany Mario on his adventures. Now he has a reason to go out! Waluigi!
Another thing I see often is that Waluigi was only made to raise hype for Mario Tennis, and is just in all of these multiplayer games so there are more characters available. Well, once again, Waluigi has a point! Waluigi's purpose in life is to cause mischief for Luigi and Mario alongside his counterpart, Wario. It's obvious what Waluigi wants: He wants to steal the limelight from Luigi, while Wario steals Mario's fame, and the two of them can show that they are better than the Mario Bros. Waluigi just wants to sit in the limelight, and is more than willing to let Luigi be his personal foot scrubber.
Lastly, many, many, people think that Waluigi is not creative at all. They know were he gets his looks from: merely a taller, skinner, version of Luigi with a big nose like his brother Wario. Besides this, Nintendo finally decided to give Luigi a rival and Wario a partner in mischief. Another thing that people hate about Waluigi is his name. They see that "Waluigi" is just "Luigi" with a "Wa" put in front of it, to display his relationship to Wario. When in fact, Waluigi's name actually origins from the Japanese term, "Waruigi", which means "bad" in English.
So as you can see, Waluigi is not pointless, and certainly deserves to be a Mario character! One of these days he'll beat that pesky green plumber, and finally get his feet a good scrubbing. :-)
