First of all, I'd like to cover all the legal mumbo-jumbo. I know this is unlikely, but if anyone reading this would like to use my review for their site or something, you MUST ask MY permission FIRST. (My e-mail address is at the bottom of this review) If I find this review or anything looking like it on another site that I have not autherized it on, I will HUNT YOU DOWN and sue you for all I'm worth.
Graphics: 10 out of 10
The graphics in Golden Sun are some of the best I've ever seen on Game Boy Advance. Everything is sharp and defined, and I'd say the only part of the game that has bad graphics is when you score a critical hit in battle, as some of the enemies you face get EXTREMELY pixilated. Other than that, the graphics are really amazing, especially some of the psynergies and summons (more on those later).
Music/Sound: 10 out of 10
The sound in this game is phenomonal. Every single tune fits the atmosphere or mood, and they're all crystal clear and ear-pleasing. However, i wouldn't recommend playing this game around adults........the noises from the battle sequences tend to annoy adults for some reason....ah well.
Frustration Level: 6 out of 10
Golden Sun isn't the most difficult game you'll ever play, but it has some tricky spots.....the that makes golden sun unique is the fact that you use your psynergy (again, i'll talk about that later) in AND outside of battle. you'll usually use it for healing, but there are a couple of areas that require a specific psynergy for you to get past them.
Difficulty Level: 9 out of 10
Although I may be contradicting what I said before, Golden Sun is quite a challenge, and you'll understand what I say very quickly, because there are a couple of tough battles right at the very beginning. There are a myriad of tough puzzles at a certain point, and the boss challenges can be challenging even if you're at a high experience level.
Amount of Fun: 10 out of 10
Golden Sun is one of the best gameboy games I have ever played. The cut scenes tend to drag on for a bit, but they add to the story, which makes it much deeper and more compelling. Too me, this makes the game MUCH more fun, so I hope you think a deep story is good too, or you'll just get annoyed by them all, because there are a LOT.
Replayability: 7 out of 10
Golden Sun is a massive game, however, once you're beaten the final boss, you can't backtrack at all, so you must make sure to collect everything before you finish up. Now, here's where the little creatures called djinni come in. Djinn (Djinni is singular, Djinn is plural) are little creaures that you can collect throughout the game. Some join you willingly, others you must fight to collect. When, "set" a djinni adds points to your stats, special psynergy, and if you have the right combination set to you, you can change you class. (don't worry, it's not permanent). When in battle, a djinni can be, "summoned" to use it's special ability in battle. Then, it will enter the, "standby" phase. When in this mode/phase, the djinni will no longer give you stat bonuses, but if you combine their powers, you can summon extremely powerful monsters to your aid to destroy other monsters in one ferocious attack. Example: 2 water djinn on standby, choose, "summon" and you can select, "Nereid". That's just one of the choices at your disposal when you collect a lot of them. Psynergy, I don't thionk I will reveal, as the game mainly explains it for itself, but it's basically your magic. I particulairly think that's it's fun and challenging to find the right classes to suit your style.
Overall: 10 out of 10
This game is currently my second favourite for all Gameboy titles, with Super Mario World being first. It's full of depth, intrigue, and everything else that's makes a video game truly great. This game is a must buy for all ages! I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as i do, because it's the best RPG currently for any Gameboy system to date, and I hope you think so too
