Graphics: 7 out of 10
The graphics in the original Super Mario Brothers weren't fantastic, though they were a noticable step up from the arcade graphics. Also, considering the limitations of the system, I think that the makers of Super Mario Brothers did a considerably good job.
Music/Sound: 10 out of 10
How could I not give this game a perfect score in this category? This is the game that started it all! All the familiar tunes that we know and love, and every classic sound effect that we enjoy doing an impression of. Though the Mario music and sound has changed over the years, this is where it all began, and this is the game that every Mario game since has been based on.
Storyline: 10 out of 10
Yet again, this started it all. Though there were arcade games before the NES, Super Mario Brothers was the first Mario game that had the "rescue Princess Toadstool, defeat Bowser" storyline. Even to this day, games like Super Mario Sunshine borrow from the classic storyline of Super Mario Brothers.
Replayability: 7.5 out of 10
This is a fun game to play multiple times, however if you are too good at it, it may become boring. Some people can whip through the game in seconds, and won't want to play it again for some time. This game is fun to replay, though I advise that you not do it too often.
Amount of Fun: 8 out of 10
Whether multiplayer or singleplayer, you are guarinteed to have fun. By now, there are countless bonuses, and secret paths that gamers have discovered. Every time I watch someone different play Super Mario Brothers, I learn about a new secret. There's so much to uncover in this game, that I'm sure you'll have loads of fun.
Overall: 8.5 out of 10
If you are lucky enough to find a NES with Super Mario Brothers for sale, then I strongly urge you to buy it. However, if you are among the majority of people, and are not so lucky, I advise that you buy Super Mario Brothers Deluxe for Gameboy Color. It is Super Mario Brothers re-released, and includes some extra features which were not found on the NES version. Either way, I recommend you get your hands on a copy of this classic. You are not a true Mario fan until you've played the first NES Mario game- the Mario game that started it all. How can you play Super Mario 64 if you've never played the original Mario game? It's like watching a sequel to a movie without seeing the first one.
