While I didn't create this game (obviously) or any of the characters in it (Mario, Yoshi, Bowser etc.), I did write this guide. PLEASE do not steal any strategy, bios or other written work in this walkthrough. You may look at this guide for statistics for your guide (e.g. checking the prices of the items in my guide for your guide) but DO NOT steal any of my real written work. That is all, thank you. :)

1 CHARACTERS
Note: Despite what you hear, none of the characters have any advantages over each other. Note: Bowser's bio contains spoilers and lots of 'em.
1A Mario
Mario is the main character in the game (It's called MARIO Party 4 for a reson!). He wears a red shirt and a red hat with an M on it. He has an italian accent and a moustache. He has blue overalls and white gloves. This guy has been in a countless number of games, just look at one of this site's affiliates for a good list and details on the famous plumber's games.
1B Luigi
Luigi is Mario's younger brother (some stories say Luigi is Mario's twin), and has most of Mario's looks. He is skinnier than Mario and can jump higher than him as well. Luigi likes to wear a green shirt and a green hat with an L on it, similar to his brother. Luigi has been in Mario's shadow for a long time, but games such as Luigi's Mansion and Mario and Luigi are helping Luigi get closer to the spotlight.
1C Peach
Princess Peach (a.k.a. Princess Toadstool) has always been repeatedly kidnapped by Bowser throughout the Mario series. She wears a pink dress and has yellow hair. Like Mario and Luigi, she has white gloves. In Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario RPG Peach has proved to be able to fight when given a chance. Peach is kidnapped so much, she might not be surprised the next time Bowser takes her off to his castle...
1D Yoshi
Yoshi, the star of this website! Yoshi's first apperance was in Super Mario World, where he defeated Bowser for the first time by helping Mario. Yoshies come in many different colors, but the Yoshi in this game is green. A good description of Yoshi's looks would be a cute dinosaur in shoes with a horse saddle on his back. If you want more information on Yoshi, just look at one of the many sections about Yoshi on this site.
1E Wario
Wario's first game apperance was in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins where he appeared as the final boss. Since then, he has appeared in all of the Mario multiplayer games and even has a game series (Wario Land) of his own! Wario is very greedy, and he will go through anything for treasure. Wario's looks? Take Mario; make him fatter; change his red shirt to yellow; change his blue overalls to purple; and turn the M on Mario's cap upside down (Does that give you a hint that he's one of Mario's rivals?) and you get Wario.
1F Donkey Kong
DK has been around since the beginning. The very first Mario game's main characters were Mario and DK in it, and DK had stolen Mario's girlfriend, Pauline. Mario defeated DK and saved his girlfriend. Mario and DK have forgiven each other recently and they now race, golf, party and play tennis together. DK has his own adventure series in which he goes into battle with K. Rool and his army of kremlings. DK's looks? A gorilla with brown fur wearing a tie that has the letters "D" and "K" on it.
1G Daisy
Daisy's first game apperance was in Super Mario Land, where Mario had to save her from an evil alien called Tangela. Then Daisy appeared in Mario Is Missing! to give Luigi hints. Later on the N64 she started appearing in the Mario multiplayer games, and now here she is in Mario Party 4. Daisy's looks are simple. Take Peach and change her dress to yellow and her hair to brown.
1H Waluigi
Waluigi is a fairly new character to the Mario series. Rumors say he is Wario's brother, but no official information has been released yet to confirm it. His first apperance was in the N64 Mario Tennis. He then was seen in the GBC Mario Tennis and Mario Party 3. Later on Gamecube he was seen in Mario Party 4 and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and as a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee. His looks? Take Luigi and make him taller and thinner; change his green shirt to purple; change his blue overalls to black; make the nose bigger and then change the L on Luigi's cap to a backwards L (Does that give you a hint that Waluigi is one of Luigi's rivals?).

1I Bowser
Ahhh... Bowser... My favorite video game character of all time... :) Anyway, enough about that. Bowser has been around ever since Mario stopped fighting DK and has made Mario's life much harder. His looks are simple. Take a dinosaur. Now, put the dinosaur into a spiked turtle shell. Next up, give the dinosaur in a spiked turtle shell some fire breath, and you've got the King of the Koopas. Bowser is almost always the final boss, and in this game, he is playable!!!!!!!! Sadly, this is true only in the Beach Volley Folley in the extra room... Once you beat the main 5 boards in this game, Bowser will steal all of the presents you have won. To get them back, you have to play on Bowser's board which is called "Bowser's Gnarly Party". Once you win, you compete in a mini-game battle against Bowser. After that, a Baby Bowser reveals that Bowser never really took your presents at all and that Bowser has a gift for you. It will be a Bowser-based present (e.g. Bowser Lamp) that will be the last one you earn and will end your story mode birthday party.
2 STORY
It's your character's birthday and everyone has a present for you! However, this would simply be a movie if you just had to watch your character open the presents, so you have to play Mario Party to win them instead! When you beat a board, the host of that board will give your character a present. So get out there and get ready to play some Mario Party!
3 BASICS
Spaces
Blue Space
Appearance: Look at the space's name.
Details: When you land on this space, you get 3 coins.
Red Space
Appearance: Look at the space's name.
Details: When you land on this space, you lose 3 coins.
Fortune Space
Appearance: This space has a colorful star on it.
Details: Similar to "Chance Time" spaces from previous Mario Party games. You play a pinball game to see who has to give somebody something. The results are 100% based on luck.
Mushroom Space
Appearance: A space with a mushroom on it.
Details: When you land on one of these spaces, you will get either a Mini or Mega Mushroom, which one you get is random.
Spring Space
Appearance: has a red circle with a yellow sun on it.
Details: If you land here, you will be bounced over to another player's space at random.
Happening Space
Appearance: A green space with a big blue "?" on it.
Details: When you land on one of these, an event will happen. The event is different for each board. Try to land on as many of these as you can, because if "Bonus" is set to "On" in game setup, you will get a star if you land on more of these spaces than anyone else.
Battle Space
Appearance: A green space with a Bob-omb on it.
Details: Since Goomba is busy hosting his own board, Bob-omb gets to take Goomba's job as the battle game host. A number will be chosen when you land on this space. "5", "10", "20", "30" or "50". Whatever number is chosen, each player puts that many coins into the pot. Then, everyone will play a battle game. The winner gets 3/4 of the coins in the pot and the second place finisher gets 1/4 of them.
Bowser Space
Appearance: A red space with big bad Bowser's face on it.
Details: When you land on this space, either Baby Bowser or Bowser will come to you. Baby Bowser has higher odds of appearing. If Baby Bowser shows up, he'll either take 10-30 coins only from you or from everyone. If Bowser shows up, he'll make you do one of the following:
1 Bowser Game (Most common. The loser will lose all their coins or items, whichever Bowser wants.)
2 Bowser Revoulotion (Average odds. All of the coins are split evenly between the players.)
3 Bowser Shuffle (Rare. All of the players' positions are switched around randomly.)
4 Bowser Suit (Rarest of all rare Bowser things. Bowser will give a Bowser suit to whoever landed on the space.)
Note: Sometimes after Baby Bowser takes his coins, Bowser comes to the party anyway.
3B Shops
Item Shop: When you pass it, you can enter it if you wish and purchase items. The closer you are to last place, the higher the odds you'll have better items offered to you.
Boo House: When you pass this place, you can steal coins or stars from another player. It costs 5 coins to steal coins (Don't worry. You'll get your money back with the coins you steal.) and 50 coins to steal a star.
Lottery Shop: When you pass this casinolike place, you'll have the option to enter for 5 coins. If you enter, you'll play a simple game in which you have a chance of winning a Mushroom (3rd place. a Mega Mushroom, a Mini Mushroom, a Super Mini Mushroom or a Super Mega Mushroom), 30 coins (2nd place), or a shocking 100 coins (1st place)! You'll also get a lottery ticket on your first trip to the lottery shop. Find out more about the lottery ticket at the "Last Five Turns Event" section.
3C Items
Boo's Crystal Ball
Price: 25 coins
Details: This is like the Boo Bell from past Mario Party games. This item summons a Boo that will offer to do the same things as if you were at the Boo House.
Bowser Suit
Price: Not for sale
Details: The Bowser Suit returns from past Mario Party games but is much rarer. You can only get this item by landing on a Bowser space, making Bowser appear and then hope that he gives you a Bowser Suit. While you're wearing the suit, you take 30 coins from any player you pass. Sadly, you can only wear it for one turn. :(
Chomp Call
Price: 15 coins
Details: This is like the Lucky Lamp from Mario Party 3. When used, it will move the star to a different location.
Gaddlight
Price: 15 coins
Details: This is like the Boo Spray from past Mario Party game. It's purpose is to stop Boo from stealing coins and stars from you. After E. Gadd's technology saves you from a Boo, it disappears.
Item Bag
Price: 30 coins
Details: 3 random items are inside of this bag. You'll instanly use this item once you buy it. Note: The Item Bag will not break the max limit of 3 items (e. g. If you already own 1 item when you purchase the bag, then you will only get 2 additional items from the bag).
Magic Lamp
Price: 30 coins
Details: The mushroom genie returns! When you use this, a genie will bounce you to the star. Make sure you have 20 coins when you use this, or you'll waste a very expensive item.
Mega Mushroom
Price: 5 coins
Details: On the turn you use this, you will roll 2 dice and will steal 10 coins from any players you pass. There's a side effect, though. You will bypass all events, such as the star and the shops.
Mini Mushroom
Price: 5 coins
Details: When you use this, you will roll a dice that has the numbers 1-5 on it. Don't worry, it has good effects! While you're Mini, you can go through the small pipes and can play the mini mini games.
Mini-Mega Hammer
Price: 10 coins
Details: When you use this item, a menu will come up asking you to select one of your opponents. Do so, and that player will either become Mini or Mega on their next turn. What use is this to you? When a player is near a star, you could make them Mega to pass it up or Mini so they reach it slower.
Super Mega Mushroom
Price: 15 coins
Details: This item is just like the Mega Mushroom, except that you get to roll three dice.
Super Mini Mushroom
Price: 15 coins
Details: This item is just like the Mini Mushoom, except that you get to have a normal roll.
Sparky Sticker
Price: 15 coins
Details: When you use this item, a sticker is placed on the space you're on. When another player passes this space, they will lose 10 coins. Note: The 10 coins the other player loses will not be given to you.
Swap Card
Price: 15 coins
Details: You'll swap all items with a player chosen by roulette when you use this item.
Warp Pipe
Price: 10 coins
Details: When you use this item, you will trade spaces with a random player.
3D Bonus Stars
If "Bonus" is set to "On" at the begining of a game, then you will receive a bonus star for any of the three you qualify for. The three Bonus Stars are listed below:
Mini Game Star Award: Whoever wins the most coins in mini games gets this star.
Coin Star Award: Whoever had the highest total of coins AT ANY TIME will win this star award. (e.g., DK had 120 coins at one time but finished with 10, he would still get the star assuming that nobody else got higher than 120.)
Happening Star Award: Whoever lands on the most happening spaces wins this award.
3E The last Five Turns Event
Once you get down to the last 5 turns of a board game, a special event will happen. First, if anyone has a lottery ticket at the lottery shop, the host of the board will randomly decide if anyone wins the lottery prize (a star). After that, the host will show the current standings of the players. Then the host will call the player in last place to spin the last five turns wheel. It can land on any of the following events:
blue spaces and red spaces give/take 6 coins instead of the normal 3.
red spaces turn into Bowser spaces.
red spaces turn into fortune spaces.
stars don't cost 20 coins, they are now free.
3F Modes
Party Mode: Your main multiplayer board game mode. Party mode has been made much more custom than in previous games.
Story Mode: This is the main 1 player mode. Look at the upcoming story mode section for more details.
Mini Game Mode: The mini game room, land or house from previous games is hosted by Goomba. Play any kind of mini game you want, make a custom mini game list, play the mini game battle (remember this from Mario Party 3?) or mini game team tic tac toe.
Option Room: Hosted by Koopa. These are your average options. You can look at board game records (Unlike Mario Party 3, it counts games played in Story Mode.) and the mini game records at the computer. You can switch the sound from Stereo to Mono and you can switch the rumble feature on and off.
Present Room: This room is hosted by Shy Guy. This is where all of the presents you win in story mode and in mini games go. For more details about the presents, look at the upcoming present section.
Extra Room: You can play minigames here that you can't play anywhere else! If you choose Thwomp, he will let you choose two extra miniature game boards (No stars in these boards. The player with the most coins wins.) in addition to his extra mini games.
4 STORY MODE WALKTHROUGH
To start off, you'll need to choose the settings for your birthday party. Choose your character, difficulty and what kind of mini games you'll play (all of them, just the easy ones or your custom list). Note: You can change the mini game settings, but to change the others you'll have to start a new file or finish your current story. Note: You play for 15 turns on all boards in this mode.
It's your character's birthday, hooooraaaay! Earn the presents by beating the boards (Look at story section for more details.)! Now, let's go win some presents!
You can go to the boards in any order. I would highly recommend you choose Toad's Midway Madness if it's your first play on your first Mario Party game. Boo and Koopa have harder boards. Go to their boards when you feel you're more experienced. Anyway, once you win the board, the host of that board will challenge you to a mini-game. Beat the host and you'll get a present which you can see in the present room (more details on presents coming in presents section).

SPOILERS!
Once you beat all 5 of the main boards, Bowser will take all your presents. He says "If you want 'em back, then you have to come to my party!". You'll now automatically play Bowser's board, Bowser's Gnarly Party. This board can be rather difficult, so look at the boards section for help. If you thought Bowser's board was hard, just take a look at his challenge mini game! It's a full (almost) final level with a boss of a 3D Mario platformer! When Bowser is defeated, you'll get the ending. (Look at the upcoming ending section for details.)
5 BOARDS
5A Goomba's Greedy Gala
Difficulty: *
Blue Spaces: 47
Red Spaces: 7
Fortune Spaces: 2
Mushroom Spaces: 16
Spring Spaces: 4
Happening Spaces: 5
Battle Spaces: 3
Bowser Spaces: 3
Rough Map:
ULI R URI
BLI BRI
R = Roulette
ULI = Upper Left Island
URI = Upper Right Island
BLI = Bottom Left Island
BRI = Bottom Right Island
Details: Right in the center of Goomba's board, there is a roulette which has arrows on it showing the 4 paths you can take. If you go to the Goomba who owns it, you can bribe him with 5, 10 or 20 coins to raise the odds that you'll go on the island with the star. You may get lucky and get 20 coins and a choice of your direction when you go up to the roulette. The more you pay him the more likely you are to go to the star. In each of the 4 islands to which the roulette table can take you, there is a die where Goomba will appear if you pass it. You'll have a dice duel and whoever gets the higher number wins. If you win, you get 10 coins. If you lose, you go back to start. Boo's House is to the upper left of the start. The lottery shop is in the lower left island and the main item shop is just a little way to the left of start. Item shop #2 is located on the upper right portion of the upper left island.
Useful Items on this board: Warp Pipe, Mini Mushroom, Chomp Call
6 MINI GAMES
6A 4 Player Mini Games
Manta Rings
Controls:
Control Stick = Move
A = Press Repeatedly to Go Forward
Rules: Dive through the rings while swimming in the ocean. Each ring is worth one point. If any enemies hit you, you'll lose points.
Guide: Press A repeatedly to get the rings before everyone else does. But before you do, make sure nobody is in your way or you'll waste time. Getting the golden rings (which are worth 3 points) are vital to winning this mini game, so be sure to get them when you can. Also, don't be a pushover! Push people out of the way or into the side of the screen. If you are in the lead and there's only one other person that can win, push that person into the side. Also, at the end, there will always be this giant orange electric eel that will go across the screen. Avoid it at all costs, as you will lose 3 points if you hit it.
Slime Time
Controls:
A = Press Quickly to Escape
Rules: Escape from the slime! Be the first person to reach the middle platform to win!
Guide: Not much to beating the computers here. The only real advice I can give you is to pause if you get tired because if you stop without pausing, you'll be pulled back by the slime.
Booksquirm
Controls:
Control Stick = Move
Rules: Avoid getting flattened by the pages! Find a hole in the falling page and position yourself so you fit through to the next page!
Guide: This is a very fun game! :) A good tip for defeating the COMS in this game is to pause right when a page comes down and decide which hole would be the best choice to go to next. If you're playing with a friend and you use the pause tactic, they'll probably say you're cheating. Don't be a pushover! Push players out of the holes (Go ahead and do it to the COMS, but if you do it to a friend, they'll proably say you're cheating.)
Mario Medly
Controls:
B+A = Breaststroke
L then R = Backstroke
B then A = Crawl
Rules: Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Crawl. You must do a 25-meter lap of each different stroke to win this race.
Guide: It is very important that you pace yourself. If you don't pace yourself, you'll lose the game (most likely). Once you get near the end, quit pacing and just make a mad dash.
Avalanche!
Controls:
Control Stick = Turn
A = Use Poles for Speed
Rules: Don't get swallowed by the avalanche behind you! Ski down the mountain and avoid the obstacles too!
Guide: Avoid the boulders at all costs, as it'll make the game much harder if you hit one. Make sure to jump off the ramps to get closer to the finish. Ski over to the right side, as you'll often be forced to go to theleft. Don't forget to press A rapidly to go as fast as you can.
