Yoshi appears in the game when a top shell (which falls from the top of the screen), lands on top of a bottom shell (which also falls from the top). Then, the egg will meet, hatch, and a Yoshi will appear. There is a different Yoshi depending on how many enemies get sandwiched between the top and bottom egg. The Yoshi's include: baby yoshi, regular yoshi, winged yoshi, star yoshi.

Mario- Though the game is named after Yoshi, Mario is the one who has to do all the work. He is at the bottom of the screen with his arms outstretched, and must move the platforms so that three of the same kind of enemy fall on each other in a row.
