Original created as the sequel to Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island was successful enough to become an entity of its own. Yoshi's Island was significant in a number of senses. First of all, it was Yoshi's first platformer, and debatably the most popular Yoshi game. As well, it introduced a far greater number of Yoshis than were present in Super Mario World. Yoshi travels through six worlds and fights enemies in order to save Baby Luigi from Bowser and re-unite the brothers.
